FOREST MASTER COMPACT ELECTRIC WOOD CHIPPER GARDEN SHREDDER 4HP DIRECT DRIVE
The FM4DDE is a patent pending (GB2008049.5) compact electric wood chipper capable of chipping wood up to 50mm (2 inches) in diameter. The FM4DDE’s 4hp 2800-watt electric motor can rotate the chipper drum at a maximum of 2800 rpm. This enables it to easily chip all kinds of freshly cut wood from hard to soft. It is direct drive for better performance and this also means that there are no belts that you have to keep adjusting. Although it is a powerful 2800-watt electric motor, it still runs off standard 240v household mains electricity. The motor is fitted with a UK 3 pin plug and we supply a 2 pin adapter for continental Europe.
The FM4DDE has twin reversible blades so that when one side becomes worn from use the blades can simply be turned around to use the second side. This saves the need for constant resharpening and effectively doubles the life of the blades. The lightweight and compact size of the chipper enables it to be extremely manoeuvrable and easy to store. Both the feed hopper and the discharge chute have a hinged chute design, enabling the user to easily access the drum for quick maintenance. The end of the FM4DDE’s discharge chute can be angled to direct the chips.
- Direct Drive, no belts to adjust
- Reversible blades for longer life
- Chips wood up to 50mm (2″) in diameter

- Compact for easy storage
- Hinged hopper and chute
- Runs off standard household mains

This arrived today – literally 2 working days after ordering over a bank holiday weekend. I don’t often write reviews but I’m so impressed with this chipper I felt it warranted one.
It took only 20 minutes to digest the very clear instructions and assemble the machine. It is heavy so do this in a suitable space or on a workbench. It seems very well made, robust and thought out.
I then used this for about an hour this evening and it simply rips through cuttings – up to a size that I thought would jam the machine. I filled half a builders sack with mulch / chippings in this time.
It is very quiet in ‘standby’ while running, obviously much louder when chipping material. I’m glad I got the electric one as I think for a home user with occasional clearing jobs it is ideal – and much quieter for neighbours than the petrol model.
I’d read other users who suggested removing the metal safety guard on the feed-in chute – I did this within 10 minutes of using it as it is a much more efficient feed without the safety plate. There is still a flexible rubber type flap in place so safety isn’t compromised too much as long as you’re careful using it.
Compared to the more domestic shredder it replaced (a 2.5kw quiet unit which I struggled to get consistent results with) this is in a different league. If you can afford to pay the slight premium over a more well-known brand’s product aimed at the domestic user then take my advice – don’t even think about it just do it, you won’t regret the difference in performance. My only regret is that I didn’t get one of these years ago – highly recommended!

Pleased with the performance works well on conifer had to hold back the bigger bits to allow the drum to clear but pleased overall

Delivered in less than 24 hours and unlike the plastic versions one sees in DIY stores this is a serious bit of kit and coped with branches even just over 50mm diameter with ease.

Compact

It will perform like it does in the video with soft, small, relatively straight branches. Max probably 30mm NOT 50mm. Anything not straight, for example pear tree pruned branches, forget it. Motor very powerful, this means machine needs to be on a big amp breaker or it will trip. Delivery prompt. Will use it, but a little disappointed that you can’t just feed any freshly cut branches from any tree that is under 50mm diameter into it

I love this product, much better than my old wolf tool shredder does exactly what it says on the tin. I did move the metal plate wide guard took that off but left the plastic frogs were like a dream cut through everything I wanted very happy with this product.

Online advert states that, “This compact machine can handle any green waste, wood branches, and plants with ease” and “will chip branches up to 50mm diameter”. Tried to shred 12mm conifer branches with leaves but leaves jammed in bottom of output chute and compacted under the blades, stalling motor. Machine would only run for around 30 seconds before jamming and blowing the plug fuse. Safety cutout did not work. Contacted Arrow-UK to be told that this machine cannot handle conifer branches with leaves. Not mentioned anywhere in advert or on website that machine cannot handle conifer branches with leaves. Waste of time if machine can only handle very specific garden waste. Returned for refund. After waiting 7 days Arrows-UK claimed that they hadn’t received the machine back despite the fact that DPD tracking showed that they had received and signed for it. Got full refund eventually!

Fantastic machine, we have mature garden with trees, so a very useful addition to the garden. Thank you

Not used yet , but looks good. Easy to assemble

Shredding and chipping truly excellent. But hole for locking nut for Hopper badly misaligned. Had to widen the hole sideways to be able to insert and thread the safety nut. Rubber curtain a veritable nuisance! Suspect even the shorter clear plastic curtain may be a hindrance.

On inspection appears to be a robust chipper. Will need to wait until better weather to fully put it through its paces.

I was really impressed, I had 3 hours of tree and hedge cuttings up to about 25mm diameter in my garden and it got through it great. I wouldn’t use it for bigger branches as it would put too much stress on the motor. I’ve used other ones and they not worth it. The forest master electric chipper is like a mini professional chipper, the motor and drum with cutting blades are really impressive. In 3 hours use it didn’t cut out, overheat or get blocked up once. I used to work for the council as a tree surgeon for many years and am very experienced with professional chippers and this one is superb.

Easy to assemble and works perfectly!
Peter Jackson (verified owner) –
Sturdy. Power is dictated by the mains supply. Within that limit the machine worked well. A test will be how long the blades last

I’m really impressed with this chipper, for something so small it works amazingly well, I spent half a day chipping a lot of laurel hedging that I’d dramatically reduced the height of and it dealt with it all without any problem at all.

Only arrived in the last day or so, as awaiting how good it works

A great product for professional DIYers. It performs effectively and appears durable. However, it could benefit from some design improvements, such as an easier way to clear blockages. Additionally, the 1m cord feels a bit restrictive
