FOREST MASTER COMPACT ELECTRIC WOOD CHIPPER 4HP DIRECT DRIVE
The FM4DDE is a patent pending (GB2008049.5) compact electric wood chipper capable of chipping wood up to 50mm (2 inches) in diameter. The FM4DDE’s 4hp 2800 watt electric motor can rotate the chipper drum at a maximum of 2800 rpm. This enables it to easily chip all kinds of freshly cut wood from hard to soft. It is direct drive for better performance and this also means that there are no belts that you have to keep adjusting. Although it is a powerful 2800 watt electric motor, it still runs off standard 240v household mains electricity. The motor is fitted with a UK 3 pin plug and we supply a 2 pin adapter for continental Europe.
The FM4DDE has twin reversible blades so that when one side becomes worn from use the blades can simply be turned around to use the second side. This saves the need for constant resharpening and effectively doubles the life of the blades. The lightweight and compact size of the chipper enables it to be extremely manoeuvrable and easy to store. Both the feed hopper and the discharge chute have a hinged chute design, enabling the user to easily access the drum for quick maintenance. The end of the FM4DDE’s discharge chute can be angled to direct the chips.

Peter Doggett (verified owner) –
This arrived today – literally 2 working days after ordering over a bank holiday weekend. I don’t often write reviews but I’m so impressed with this chipper I felt it warranted one.
It took only 20 minutes to digest the very clear instructions and assemble the machine. It is heavy so do this in a suitable space or on a workbench. It seems very well made, robust and thought out.
I then used this for about an hour this evening and it simply rips through cuttings – up to a size that I thought would jam the machine. I filled half a builders sack with mulch / chippings in this time.
It is very quiet in ‘standby’ while running, obviously much louder when chipping material. I’m glad I got the electric one as I think for a home user with occasional clearing jobs it is ideal – and much quieter for neighbours than the petrol model.
I’d read other users who suggested removing the metal safety guard on the feed-in chute – I did this within 10 minutes of using it as it is a much more efficient feed without the safety plate. There is still a flexible rubber type flap in place so safety isn’t compromised too much as long as you’re careful using it.
Compared to the more domestic shredder it replaced (a 2.5kw quiet unit which I struggled to get consistent results with) this is in a different league. If you can afford to pay the slight premium over a more well-known brand’s product aimed at the domestic user then take my advice – don’t even think about it just do it, you won’t regret the difference in performance. My only regret is that I didn’t get one of these years ago – highly recommended!
